A Teacher’s Testimonial
August 16th, 2010
We had the pleasure of visiting Ms. Nora Bradley’s Grade 1/2 class at Selwyn School this past year for an author visit. Nora’s been teaching for 25 years (!). Here’s what she has to say about Picture It Picture Books and our classroom visit:
With tremendous energy and enthusiasm, Alicia and Leanne told the story of Captain Zane. Spellbound from the very beginning, the children were caught up in the world of a greedy captain, Goldhead sharks, ocean life and an important environmental message. After the story was finished, each child had the opportunity to illustrate a page of their choice. They worked quietly and with great determination creating the images from their imaginations. The results were outstanding! Each picture reflected the students’ unique understanding of the words they heard. It was wonderful to see their imaginations stimulated to such a degree that the artwork was a result of their own interpretation of the events of the story and not influenced by another illustrator as is the case in most picture books. As well, I was amazed by the level of comprehension of some students because of the details they had included. The outcome of this visit far exceeded my expectations for my children. I highly recommend having these very exciting authors for a classroom visit. Picture It Picture Books should not be overlooked!
